Alok Agrawal.co.uk
Hello, welcome, my name is Alok Agrawal and I was a councillor in the Becontree Ward in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. I have been involved in local affairs in the borough as a businessman, chair of the residents’ association and as councillor for 27 years, so I understand and share local residents’ concerns.

For 20 years I ran a very busy post office in the borough serving around 4,000 people every week. This gave me the opportunity to get to know my fellow residents and their families.

As East London Branch president of the National Federation of Sub-Post Masters, I organised meetings with the then post office minister, the Honourable Stephen Timms, and our local MP, the Honourable Jon Cruddas. I met with them on several occasions in an attempt to save the post offices prior to the Parliamentary vote.

I continue to be involved in a number of social and cultural organisations for which I have served as chair, secretary and trustee. I enjoy cordial relations with the local Temple, Gurdwara and Church as well as several voluntary organisations. My two sons grew up in Dagenham and attended local schools (Valence and Warren).

As a councillor it was my duty and pleasure to listen to my constituents so that I can act as their voice. Since I was elected in 2005 I have worked with my fellow labour councillors to attract investments towards cleaner and safer streets, improvements to our parks, youth services and greater investment in social and affordable housing. I make myself available to my constituents through street surgeries and more traditional methods. I work closely with the neighbourhood police and neighbourhood co-ordinator.

I am committed to representing my constituents in all ways possible and am able to help them with their problems by acting as their voice in the council. I want to ensure equal opportunities for all residents in this borough. I am confident that we can work towards a cleaner and greener borough in which all residents are proud to live and work.

I am proud to have served the people of Becontree ward thus far, and will be honoured to continue in this public service.
